On 8th March 2024, Women's Day was celebrated in the school's A.V. room. The Principal, Mrs. P. Bagchi, along with the coordinators, organized a brief programme at 2:30 p.m. exclusively for the female staff members, who were requested to wear pink attire for the occasion. The event commenced with a prayer led by Mrs. D. Abraham, followed by an inspirational speech delivered by Mrs. P. Bagchi. Subsequently, the Principal and senior teachers ceremoniously cut the cake. The female staff members enjoyed the refreshments provided and were presented with a small gift to commemorate the day and make them feel appreciated.

View AllEducational trip to Alipore jail museum
The students of Loreto Day School Bowbazar of class XI were taken for an educational excursion to the Alipore Jail Museum on 13th March, 2024, a historic landmark in the crux of Kolkata. It was established in 1906. This 116-year-old building spans an area of 15.2 acres. The colonial-era institution encompasses various buildings, including prison cells, wards, the Alipore Jail Press Building, the Central Watchtower, and the Alipore Jail Hospital building. The museum stands as a commemorative to honour the sacrifices of those who fought for India's independence and bears witness to the brutalities inflicted upon freedom fighters.
Alipore Central Correctional Home now has exhibits showcasing artefacts, documents, and photographs related to its history and notable inmates. Prominent freedom fighters like Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose, Chittaranjan Das, Dinesh Gupta, and Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy were incarcerated here.
During the visit, our school explored the cells of Jawaharlal Nehru, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, the structure of the Cellular Jail and an exhibition showcasing life inside the cells and gallows. The museum provided a glimpse into the colonial-era prison system in India, offering students an opportunity to learn about the British colonial past.
The excursion expanded students' knowledge beyond textbooks, enhancing their understanding of the subject. We gained a deeper understanding of the historical significance of the Alipore Jail Museum and its contribution to India's freedom struggle.

View AllInter-House Quiz competition 2023-2024
The Inter-House quiz competition for the session of 2023-24 was held on 14th March, 2024. This was the first Inter-House quiz competition held after the pandemic. Club mistresses Mrs. C.Raha and Mrs. G.Sarkar prepared the questions for the quiz. Six rounds were held which included connection round, audio round, question answer round, logo round and a live round. The quiz covered topics like current affairs; countries, general knowledge, students as well as the teachers enjoyed the quiz a lot. St. Joan of Arc won the competition. Second position was secured by house Maria Goretti, third position was taken by St. Francis Xavier and St. Teresa came in fourth position. I thank our Principal Mrs. P. Bagchi for giving us the opportunity and for all our support. I also thank Ms. R. B. Koruri and Ms. S.Das for helping with the scores, Ms. S. Roy for time keeping and Mr. D. Bor for sound and music, and lastly the girls of our quiz club without whose help the program wouldn’t have been possible.

Thanksgiving prayer service and prize distribution for Junior School was held on 19th March,2024 for a special occasion that celebrates the achievements and hard work of our students from Lower Nursery to Grade 5. It began with a prayer service by Class 4, a moment of reflection and gratitude followed by the prize distribution segment. The time to honor and reward the outstanding efforts and accomplishments of our students. It represents a milestone, a testament to the commitment and passion our students have shown in their academic pursuits to inspire all our students to continue striving for excellence, embracing challenges, and nurturing a love for learning, hard work and dedication were presented with certificates and medals by our Principal, Ms. P. Bagchi. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by our Principal followed by a thankful note by the class 5.

The Thanksgiving programme took place on March 21, 2024, at the school's basketball ground. The young students of Class 6 presented a captivating programme that transported us back through the events of the academic year, 2023-2024 . They performed a skit illustrating the highlights of the year, sang a melodious song , and performed on the prayer song "Arodhona Kori." The event concluded with a vote of thanks and the Principal, Mrs. P. Bagchi addressing the gathering. The ceremony was followed by the distribution of certificates and medals for the session 2023-2024.

On 2nd February, 2024, the student council farewell, hosted with grace by the students of Class 8, unfolded as a poignant yet celebratory event. Commencing with a solemn prayer service and scripture readings, the atmosphere was set with a prayer dance that added a harmonious touch. The Council Members relinquished their sashes and badges on stage, symbolizing the end of their term.
The sequence continued with the Head Girl and Vice Head Girl, Games and Vice Games Captain, Captains and Vice Captains of the four houses, and the JPIC Representatives bidding farewell. Our respected Principal shared insightful words, addressing the gathering with warmth, followed by the farewell speech by the Head Girl.
The event ended in a unifying rendition of the Loreto Chorus, leaving a lasting imprint on the hearts of all the students.

On 5th February, an Inter house debate competition was organised by The Debate club. The topic for middle school was “Advertising is promoting materialism and consumerism in Children” and the topic for senior school was “Social media is promoting Unhealthy beauty standards among young people”. There were four speakers from four houses. Two houses spoke for the topic and two houses spoke against the topic. The results were “Best speaker” in the middle school category was Rhine Banerjee of St Joan of Arc house and for Senior school Kritika Joshi of St. Joan of Arc.

On 5th February, the students of St. Stephen School of Ireland came to visit the school. School arranged an assembly for them. Our students welcomed them by Aarti. After lighting up of the lamp by principal a short prayer service a small programme has been presented for the guests. On 11th January 2024, General Consulate from Rome, Sister Kate Myers and Sister Natalie Houlihan paid a special visit to Loreto Day School, Bowbazar. The Sisters were greeted in the traditional Indian style. Indigenous handicrafts from various regions of West Bengal were exhibited. An assembly was prepared by the teachers and students, which included a welcome address and felicitation of the Sisters by the Principal. A prayer service was held, followed by a presentation on the school’s history and various activities. Furthermore, the vibrant Bengali culture was showcased during the assembly. The event was concluded with an address by the Sisters, who shared their wisdom and insights with the audience.

A special assembly was conducted to honour the life and legacy of St. Francis Xavier, a patron saint known for his missionary work and dedication in spreading Christianity across Asia. The assembly commenced with a solemn prayer dance. Students showcased their creativity through a skit, video and readings depicting scenes from his life and missionary journeys. With the help of these presentations, students gained insight into the selfless service and unwavering faith that characterized St. Francis Xavier's mission.

This year the 75th Republic Day was celebrated with great zeal .The theme represented India as the mother of Democracy. This started with the March past followed by the flag hoisting by our Principal and Sisters, followed with the reading of the preamble and the pledge. The main event started with the prayer service, medley of some patriotic songs which was continued with dance and recitation. Finally the event ended with a meaningful skit showing the importance of Democracy in India.

The Mary Ward Week was celebrated from the 24th to the 30th January, 2024.
A special assembly on the Life of Mary Ward, her Mission and Vision was conducted by the students of the Senior Section on the 24th January, 2024. During the week both Junior and Senior students made various craft items like book marks, posters, photo frame, wall hanging, handkerchief painting, badge, pen stands and other show pieces.
Students of Class 5 composed poems on Mary Ward. On the 29th January, 2024 the students of the Senior Section actively participated in the inter-house floral rangoli making. A few students were dressed up as Mary Ward, Teresa Ball, Delphine Hart and the parents of Mary Ward. Our Principal Ms. P. Bagchi interviewed them and asked them various questions.
On the 30th January, 2024 the Mary Ward week concluded with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist by Fr. Ambrose, the Parish Priest of St. Francis Xavier Church.
